Guardian of memory: the novelist as life writer
Dr Derek Neale (The Open University)

Derek Neale taught creative writing – fiction, stage and film - at UEA for a number of years before writing and designing a whole new generation of Open University courses, producing several practical books on writing and also recording interviews with playwrights, novelists, autobiographers and biographers. He is currently Director of Teaching for English at the OU and chairs their advanced creative writing teaching. His research is practice based, concerned with the writing process, how life writing and fiction cross over, and in particular the ways in which memory and imagination collaborate in both fictional and biographical storytelling. His novel The Book of Guardians will be published in 2012 and a collection of his interviews with writers about the writing process will be published in 2013.

About

The purpose of the CLN is to bring best practice across all genres of life narrative work together in one physical and virtual space in order to foster discussion, debate and interdisciplinary research.

All are welcome; booking is not required. Refreshments served.
