PhD student wins national book prize

George I. Garcia Quesada - CRMEP PhD student George I. Garcia Quesada, a PhD student in the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP), has been awarded the Aquileo J. Echeverría National Prize for the best book in History published in Costa Rica in 2014. The book is Formación de la clase media en Costa Rica. Economía, sociabilidades y discursos políticos, 1890-1950 (The Making of the Middle Class in Costa Rica: Economy, Sociabilities and Political Discourses, 1890-1950). The prize is awarded annually by the government, following the decision of an independent jury of academics. The jury noted:  "the originality of the work and the timeliness of its theme, its argumentative thoroughness and command of theoretical and conceptual aspects, as well as an indisputable contribution to the discipline of history
