Creative Writing Seminar - Japhet Asher
|Date:||15 April 2008, 5:00pm|
In this seminar, producer and documentary filmmaker Japhet Asher will compare and contrast the construction of narrative in documentary and animation through personal stories from his 25 years of experience as a writer and producer in both genres for various media.
Japhet Asher is both an Academy Award nominated documentary maker and a producer of Emmy Award winning animation. A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, Japhet began his career in documentaries, writing and producing his first television special for ABC when he was just twenty-one years old. Japhet went on to write and produce numerous film and television projects, notably the Oscar nominated “Soldiers in Hiding” for HBO and MTV’s Emmy Award winning animated compendium “Liquid Television”, which Japhet also created. The series is best known for spinning out two other MTV animated series, “Beavis and Butthead” and “Aeon Flux”, a series that Japhet co-wrote and executive produced. Japhet was also a partner in the ground-breaking San Francisco animation and effects studio Colossal Pictures and served as senior creative executive at Tele-TV, the joint venture of three major US telcos to create the framework for interactive television. He is now consulting on interactive characters and narratives for the BBC.
