Kingston Language Scheme (KLS) modules
As an international or Erasmus student, you can choose to develop your English language skills by selecting one or more of the following modules as part of your degree programme. Each module is worth 15 credit modules (7.5 ECTS). You must inform your course administrator if you decide to do one of these modules.

This module is for international students at intermediate English level who want to increase their use of academic English. This module focuses on the development of your academic English skills. You will research topics, take part in seminars, give presentations and write essays. By the end of the module you will be able to communicate more clearly and accurately in both speech and writing and approach your academic tasks with greater confidence. The module is assessed with a multi-skilled task, which includes taking part in a group discussion and writing a report or essay.
KL2918: English Language Skills 1 - Level 2
- Pre-Requisites: English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5
- Suitable for: Those who have never studied at a UK university before
This is an ideal module for upper-intermediate English level students, who have a good command of English but who wish to develop this within the context of their own academic subjects and who have never studied at a UK university before. You will develop advanced level grammatical knowledge, improve your academic vocabulary and apply what you have learnt to high quality written and spoken academic presentations. This module is particularly suitable for students entering the second year of their studies here at Kingston or those on Erasmus/Socrates exchange schemes.
KL2928: English Language Skills 2 - Level 2
- Pre-Requisites: English Language level equivalent to IELTS 6.5
- Suitable for: International students from all faculties
This module can be chosen by international students who have an upper-intermediate level of English. The module builds on your existing language skills to enable you to communicate effectively and accurately in a range of professional and social situations. Using examples taken from television, radio, newspapers and professional journals we give you the opportunity to examine the 'how and why' of English usage, thus developing your proficiency in the selection and use of the English language. Group work will enable you to develop advanced communication skills and an individual project gives the opportunity to research and present an analysis of a topic of your own choosing.
