Teaching and assessment

Teaching is through interactive seminars, lectures and individual tutorials; it involves the use of IT skills, the StudySpace online learning management system and work in our digital language laboratory.

Classes are held every weekday, from 09.00 to 16.00, with a coffee break and a lunch break. There are at least 26 hours of class time per week including independent study and tutorial sessions. You are also expected to study independently for 10 hours per week outside class time.

Course assessment

You will be given a weekly project, which you work on in groups and individually. You give regular presentations and write essays and/or reports. These are assessed by your tutors who provide you with detailed feedback on how to improve the quality of your work.

Our end of course assessments are accepted by the UKBA, therefore you are not required to take an IELTS test after completing the Pre-Sessional course.

At the end of the course you will receive a report with information about your attendance, a final percentage mark and requirements for further English language development. You will also receive a certificate of attendance.

Class size

Classes generally have no more than 16 students.
