Kingston film making MA student achieves festival double

Maya Sinharathna, a graduate of the film making MA programme at Kingston University has pulled off a film double at two separate festivals.

Friends Forever, a documentary production was awarded a special commendation at the Croydon International Film Festival, and Uncertain, a drama, has won the community selection at the Talent House/PCC/BFI Future Film Festival. Both productions were directed by Maya while at Kingston, and crewed by her collaborators, MA film making students.

Film and TV storyMaya, surprised and delighted, told us, “Art has changed my life; film has been the most powerful way for me to express my feelings and ideas.  It feels awesome to see my honest feelings on a massive screen in front of an audience and to see and hear their feedback. I have also been blessed with a wonderful winning crew and cast.

Film and TV storyI am so proud to have been one of the students at Kingston University.  I will always remember that I had excellent guides and mentors in the form of my teachers – I will always be thankful to them for all the hard work and effort they put in towards helping me attain my MA in film making.”

Maya is currently planning a film festival next year, collaborating with several Sri Lankan charities in London, and is aiming to fundraise for the Maharagama cancer hospital at Colombo in Sri Lanka.
