Zeinab picks up the Merit award at Global Peace Film Festival 2015

Salah Abu Oun, Producer/Director, and a 2014 graduate of the Kingston MA film making programme has won at the 2015 Global Peace Film Festival, picking up the award of Merit for the his short Zeinab, which has also been shortlisted at the Global Peace Festival and Free Speech Film Festival. Zeinab is the story of a little girl, Zeinab who was brought up in a devoted Muslim family living in London.

Film and TV storyAt the age of seven, her Dad wants her to wear a headscarf and conservative clothes. Zeinab obeys him despite her apparent discomfort in her new clothes. Becoming a teen, Zeinab discovers her femininity, struggling with her thoughts and her family’s doctrine. She is obliged to live two contradictory lives until she gets the courage to face her parents. It is a story of how society imposes its rules and traditions on individuals. Zeinab represents the complex freedom of choice issue for females in strict communities.

Film and TV storySalah is currently working on the Cinema show at BBC Arabic TV channel (Alternative Cinema) as an assistant producer and a picture editor.
