Film, Media and TV study

Film, Television and New Broadcast Media icon Film, Media and TV at Kingston University are based around the fundamental idea that our students are film scholars (and filmmakers) from their first day as undergraduates, and we make a commitment to support you throughout your studies. If you need help, and we can't provide it ourselves, we will find people in the university who can. We are committed to helping our students achieve their best, academically, personally and creatively. All of our degree programmes address a wide range of theoretical and practical film making concerns, and are designed to give you a broader knowledge and training before we encourage you, in your final year, to specialise in the areas that you feel most passionate about.

Many of our undergraduates stay with us and move on to one of our MA courses (in Film Studies or film making), or on to a PhD at Kingston. We also make sure we prepare you for the working world that awaits you after graduation.

Film staff will guide, advise and inform you and are always approachable. You will gain the academic skills you require to aid you with research, argument and debate. Our teaching is structured around lectures, screenings and is followed by small, weekly seminar groups and regular personal tutorials.

These classes will help you to analyze and comprehend film and express your understanding in a multi dimensional way. If you need anything explained further, our office doors are always open for informal discussion.

You will develop your practical film making skills, which will aid you to understand more comprehensively all the elements of film making and enable you to experiment with a myriad of short film forms. We will help you to develop your own creativity while experiencing the collective, collaborative nature of film making. The challenge of team working and the nature of working low budget will be fully explored put into practice.
