Languages and Linguistics undergraduate courses

Through exploring language in real settings you get a full understanding of written and spoken language and how context shapes the language people use. These language forms can range from text messaging to international advertising.

You can also study a combination of subjects:

Our approach to teaching has always been to make lectures and seminars interactive so that you learn through doing. Concepts about language are made salient through interaction with real language data and with each other. No wonder then that our teachers are all active researchers and accredited by the Higher Education Fellowship Scheme.

English Language and Communication study

All of our modules have been designed so that you will study language in a systematic way. You will start with the main concepts about language. For example how grammar, pronunciation, lexis and discourse are connected. You will study language from both social and psychological perspectives to understand how language is acquired. Then you will see how language is used by people and how people shape language to convey meaning.

Our courses are flexible too. English Language and Linguistics can be studied in combination with an extensive choice of other subjects and is also available on a part-time basis.

You can choose to study or work abroad for a year, either at Kingston’s partner universities in the United States or through Erasmus, at a number of institutions in Europe.
