Dr Marko Attila Hoare is an Associate Professor specialising in the history of South East Europe, in particular of Yugoslavia, Serbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina. He is the author of four published books: 'The Bosnian Muslims in the Second World War' (London: Hurst and Oxford University Press, 2013); 'The History of Bosnia: From the Middle Ages to the Present Day' (London: Saqi Books, 2007); 'Genocide and Resistance in Hitler's Bosnia: The Partisans and the Chetniks, 1941-1943' (London: Oxford University Press, 2006); and 'How Bosnia armed' (London: Saqi Books, 2004). He is currently working on a history of modern Serbia.

He is a member of the Higher Education Academy and a Visiting Professor at the College of Higher Education in Phnom Penh. Prior to his present post at Kingston University, Hoare was a Research Fellow at the Faculty of History of the University of Cambridge, a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellow, a war-crimes investigator at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, and a research assistant at the Bosnian Institute in London. He is a member of the editorial boards of Genocide Studies International, Historijska misao, Spirit of Bosnia, Kultura polisa and Democracy and Security in Southeastern Europe.
