New PhD Studentships 2017

Kingston University is again seeking to make substantial investment in new PhD studentships for awards commencing October 2017.

TECHNE - AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership

TCHE logoThe Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is pleased to invite applications to its PhD programmes in the arts and humanities. The Faculty offers AHRC studentships in the cross-university training centre TECHNE. This centre offers the highest quality research expertise and aims to develop the next generation of arts and humanities researchers. TECHNE has approximately 50 scholarships to award each year across a range of arts and humanities disciplines. In 2015–16 eight TECHNE studentships were awarded to Kingston applicants. The maintenance rates for 2016–17 are yet to be announced by the AHRC but for a guide you can find current maintenance and fee rates on the AHRC's page for current award holders.


In order to be eligible to apply for an AHRC TECHNE award you must first apply to Kingston University (more information below).


TECHNE provides an outstanding research training experience, drawing together the best of traditional scholarship, history, theory and practice across seven higher education institutions in London and the South East with extensive collaboration from 13 world-leading partners including the Natural History Museum, the V&A, the Science Museum, the BFI and the Barbican.

  • Deadline for expressions of interest 5.00pm (GMT) on Tuesday 15 November 2016 (only full proposals will be considered after this date)
  • First round of interviews to be held on Wednesday 23 November 2016
  • Second round of interviews to be held in January 2017

Modern European Philosophy, Creative writing, English language and literature, History, Media and culture:


  • Deadline for draft applications 5.00pm (GMT) on Friday 6 January 2017
  • Interviews held in the week beginning 16 January 2017

Deadline for final applications to Kingston University: GMT midnight 29 January 2017
