Drawings

Carolyn Bell, an artist living in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada has created a series of traditional and modern icons, drawings, and watercolours over the last few decades. She became fascinated with the novels of Iris Murdoch and had the unforgettable experience of seeing some of Murdoch's characters appear to her as they spoke on the page. For her own amusement and from a deep respect and appreciation for Iris Murdoch's work, she began drawing the characters as she saw them: Mrs Tinckham (and a tabby) from Under the Net; Bill Mor from The Sandcastle; Honor Klein from A Severed Head; Matthew Gibson-Grey from An Accidental Man; Anthea Barlow from The Time of the Angels and Charles Arrowby from The Sea, The Sea. Carolyn has kindly donated 10 sets of the drawings to the Iris Murdoch Society and will also donate a percentage of any future sales.

Examples of the card, which will be sold at £4 each or £17 for the full set of six, can be viewed below. If you would like to purchase some of these cards and support the Iris Murdoch Society, please see the links to the right of the page.
