"I studied for a PhD at Kingston part-time between 1995 and 2002 and wrote my thesis on 'Cultural Considerations of Rubato in Czech Piano Performance, with Specific Reference to Chopin's Works'.
"Kingston gave me the vital experience I needed to move into the world of higher education teaching. I was given the opportunity to lecture in Hong Kong on the BMus course Kingston runs out there. I taught many different courses, and was eventually given the position of co-ordinating all of the performance modules. Hong Kong was a tremendous challenge - a 'straight in at the deep end' scenario, but through the challenge I gained a wealth of invaluable experience which enabled me, on completion of my PhD, to gain a permanent lectureship at Roehampton University."
