What we do, and what we do differently

Film and Television at Kingston includes two undergraduate programmes, Film Studies BA(Hons) and Television and New Broadcasting Media (joint honours) BA(Hons), two posgraduate degrees, Film Studies MA and MA Film Making, and the opportunity for PhD research.

We aren't the biggest or the oldest film department in the country. We don't try to compete with the more established universities on their terms. What we offer is a tight, coherent programme of degrees that make sense together. We do something different, and we do it well.

We offer a programme where your understanding of theory, history and analysis strengthens and improves your practical work - and where the unique challenge of practical work informs your understanding of film and television. We offer an approach that analyses mainstream cinema and television, but also discovers and celebrates alternative voices and identities, across history and across the world - encouraging you to find your own voice and identity, and express them in both your written and practical work.

We encourage you to explore new areas and look at subjects you think you knew more deeply, more carefully or from a new angle. We want you to grow as practitioners and scholars during your time with us, becoming more independent and confident until by your third year, you surprise us, and yourself, with how far you've come. We're proud what we offer, and proud of what our graduates achieve.
