Concerts

Kingston University has an incredibly busy performance programme - in our last 30 week season we presented 76 concerts, nearly all of them featuring student musicians.

The 2010/11 season will continue this pattern. Music students will perform in the Royal Festival Hall as well as a range of venues in the Greater Kingston area, including The Rose Theatre, and, following last year's successful Chamber Choir tour to the Netherlands, there will be a jazz tour to Paris in June 2011.

Not only will we be staging large choral, orchestral and multimedia concerts (this year to include Quadrophenia and War of the Worlds) but other ensembles will be featured in our regular lunchtime series, taking place on the Kingston Hill campus.

There are numerous opportunities for good student bands to perform in public, either as part of our lunchtime concert series, or at open-air events in Kingston Town Centre such as May Merrie and the Christmas Lights Switch-On, as well as regular student-run Open Mic nights and Battle of the Bands-type events.

This year we also have a host of visiting classical artists, including the Ancora Duo, the Band of the Army Air Corps, Florian Kitt and Michael Round.

We are also proud to announce a new series of First Tuesday jazz lunchtimes at the Rose Theatre, presenting a range of outstandingly good musicians. On the first Tuesday of every month at 1.15pm-2.00pm some of the top names in contemporary jazz will perform. This year's lineup includes: Kate Dimbleby, Sue Richardson, Allison Neale, Louise Parker, Jo Fooks, and Trio Time.
