Make music at Kingston

Are you a musician? Do you want to play an instrument or sing? Would you like to receive tuition?

There is a wide range of opportunities open to all students, staff and members of the wider community to join in the varied musical life at Kingston University. You can join any ensemble for free and perform in various venues around Kingston and London.

Tuition

Whether you are already an accomplished performer or you would like to start learning something new from scratch, we can organise an appropriate, qualified teacher for you, at a reasonable price, in just about any area of music you can imagine!

We encourage the exploration of a wide range of styles and can incorporate, for example, Jazz piano and World Music (Africa and Indonesia) as well as study on Renaissance and Baroque instruments.

Membership of these ensembles is open to all students and staff from across the entire university community.

Concerts

A series of evening concerts is promoted each year in the leading local venues, featuring the university ensembles along with winners of student competitions in composition, concerto performance and conducting. In addition, a regular series of lunchtime concerts takes place within the university and elsewhere throughout the academic year.

Performing groups participate actively in Borough events such as the annual Kingston Arts Festival and Kingston Early Music Festival. Through links with other local organisations, our musicians contribute significantly to an excellent 'town and gown' relationship. Students also give concerts in the community in venues such as hospitals, schools and prisons.
