Facilities
Location
Music is based at our Kingston Hill campus in south-west London and benefits from easy access to the capital's unparalleled musical resources.
Sited in pleasant parkland, Music occupies an historic Regency mansion, Coombehurst House. There are two other buildings - Coombehurst Court, which houses a variety of teaching and practice rooms, and Coombehurst Studio, which comprises a large rehearsal and performance space with supporting recording facilities.
Musical instruments
Our collection of musical instruments includes some 40 pianos, two harpsichords and an extensive range of orchestral, classroom, early and electronic instruments. We have a large collection of non-Western instruments which includes a full Javanese gamelan and a set of djembe drums. Ample practice facilities are provided.
ICT and studio equipment
Music offers professional studio facilities, 3 recording and 5 editing rooms and a workstation suite containing 27 Apple iMac computers. Audio and video editing facilities, notation and word processing software and internet access are available in all studios. A wide range of music is encouraged: from rock to the experimental avant-garde, from hip-hop to multimedia projects.
Library facilities
The Kingston Hill Learning Resource Centre (Library) contains a comprehensive collection of books, anthologies, periodicals, scores, sheet music and recordings - for which listening facilities are provided. The Centre subscribes to an excellent range of e-resources for music, which is accessible from any University workstation.
