Kingston Work in Progress conference for PhD students

Research pic The Kingston Work in Progress (KWIP) conference, organised by Will Brooker (Film Studies) with Corin Depper (Film), Joanna Hall (Dance) and Sara Upstone (English), is a cross-faculty, in-house event, held in the autumn term (with plans to expand it to spring).

It aims to provide postgraduate students with a friendly and supportive environment to present their work in a conference setting, enabling them to structure their argument, gain confidence at public speaking, receive useful feedback and make connections with other students.

KWIP began in 2012 with Film, Drama, Music and Dance students (both practice and theory) and grew to include English, History and Media in 2013, in addition to students from outside Kingston and a guest speaker, Iain Robert Smith of Roehampton, offering advice on how to maximise your CV as a PhD student, how to get a job as a lecturer, and how to publish your research.
