Suburban Studies @ Kingston

Suburban Studies at Kingston is a partner in The Leverhulme Trust funded 'Cultures of the Suburbs International Research Network', which started in September 2011. The Network is a partnership between the Universities of Exeter and Kingston (UK), Witwatersrand (South Africa), Hofstra (USA), Griffith (Australia), the National University of Ireland, Maynooth, and Jain University Bangalore (India), and its purpose is to support scholarly activities relating to the cultural life of the suburbs.

The main research areas of the Centre include:

  • Cultural representations of suburbia
  • Suburban Life Histories and Life Writings
  • Suburban Identities: Ethnicity, Sexuality, Gender, Class
  • Sustainability and Suburban Lifestyles
  • The Role of City-Suburbs in City-Regions
  • The Impact of New Technologies on the Suburbs

We welcome approaches from the media, individuals, institutions and businesses interested in suburb-related topics.

You can contact Suburban Studies @ Kingston over email.
