Whether you want to learn a language, learn about language or enhance your English language, academic and communication skills, we have a course for you.

Learn about language

Our degree programmes give you the opportunity to explore language from a diverse range of perspectives, while developing your own communication skills.

At undergraduate level you can study English Language and Linguistics.

At postgraduate level, we offer an MA in Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching. Whether you are already an experienced language teacher or just starting out in a new career, this degree will provide you with the knowledge and skills you need to improve your professional teaching practice.

Our MA by Research route offers you the opportunity to work closely with one of subject specialists on a project of your own choosing. This is the ideal way to explore your interests under the guidance of a professional researcher, and provides preparation for those who wish to go on to study for a PhD. You can read about the specialist areas of the researchers in the department in our People section.

Learn a language

The Kingston Language Scheme (KLS) offers courses in nine foreign languages (French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin and Japanese). Classes are taught at a range of levels, so you can start a new language from scratch or build on existing knowledge. All KLS classes are free to Kingston students.

Enhance your English language and academic skills

Our English for Academic and Professional Development programme offers a range of courses to help you develop your English language and academic skills alongside your main area of study. Our accredited Pre-sessional English Language courses offer excellent preparation for university study. We are also expert in tailoring language courses for external clients.
