Research in Historical Studies
The History Research Group at Kingston, led by Professor Craig Phelan, has established itself as one of the University's leading research areas enjoying an international reputation for high quality historical research. Research strengths centre upon post-1750 British and continental European history, including the history of ideas.
Specific areas of staff research expertise include:
- British politics, empire, foreign policy and military history since 1900
- the history of ideas, especially in France since the Enlightenment
- the French Revolution
- Irish history during the 19th and 20th centuries
- local history, including the history of London
- the politics of sport
- using and abusing history (official history, propaganda, biography and memoirs).
